What We Believe

We are a Bible-believing, Christ-centered church. At the heart of our faith is the good news that we are saved by God’s grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ alone. All that we believe, teach, and confess is based on God’s Word alone.

It is our joy to share these beliefs:

1. There is one true God, who created us and loves us.

Psalm 139:13. You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 145:9. The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.

2. The one true God is the Holy Trinity — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 8:4. There is no God but one.

Matthew 28:19. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

3. Because of our sin, we are not naturally at peace with God.

Isaiah 59:2. Your iniquities have separated you from God.

Romans 8:7. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

4. Lost in sin, we cannot bring ourselves into a right relationship with God.

Psalm 51:5. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Ephesians 2:1. You were dead in your transgressions and sins.

5. Although we deserve God’s judgment for our sins, He is gracious and merciful. In His great love, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to save us from sin, death, and the devil.

Romans 6:23. The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

John 3:16. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

6. God the Son, Jesus Christ, saved us by becoming a man, living a sinless life, and dying on the cross as our substitute to pay the price for all our sins.

1 John 3:16. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.

Isaiah 53:5. He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.

7. Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and the devil was gloriously displayed in His bodily resurrection from the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4. Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day.

John 14:19. Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.”

8. The forgiveness and salvation that Christ won for us on the cross are now given to us personally through Baptism, God’s Word, and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper). In these ways, the Holy Spirit creates and strengthens saving faith in our hearts.

Mark 16:16. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Matthew 26:26–28. Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

9. We are not saved by our good works. Salvation is a free gift from God that we receive through faith in Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:8–9. By grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 5:1. Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

10. All who have faith in Jesus as their Savior have the assurance of everlasting life.

John 11:25–26. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Romans 8:1. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

All of these beliefs are based on God’s unchanging, infallible Word, which He has given us in the holy Bible (Scripture):

2 Timothy 3:16–17. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Isaiah 40:8. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
