Letter from Christian Ed Director Mrs. Droste

Dear ORELC families,

I wanted to reach out and touch base well before the beginning of the new Sunday School year. This year is like no other! This year’s Rally Day will also be like none that I have experienced.

We will not have Sunday School kick off in person on September 13th. Due to social distancing, and other state mandated guidelines, we will not be able to have in person children’s Sunday School for the fall. Our classroom physical space is just not large enough to accommodate what we must do to run our Sunday School Program safely. Mr. Keith Jager and Mr. Doug Bosch will continue their excellent teaching program for our Confirmation students for both 1st and 2nd year students. Mr. Jager has and will continue to reach out directly to parents regarding scheduling of classes.

Sunday School Lesson

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, | all the earth!*
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with | singing!

Know that the Lord, | he is God!*
 It is he who made us, and we are his;
 we are his people, and the sheep of his | pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his | courts with praise!*
Give thanks to him; | bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for- | ever,*
and his faithfulness to all gener- | ations.

"You'll Never Walk Alone"

The other day I stumbled across this wonderful video when I was reading the news. It seems this young man’s dreams and plans were upended by the Covid-19 pandemic. Now many of us have felt that way—what we have planned for this spring, summer and perhaps even the fall has been upended. We feel mad, we feel sad and yes we feel bad about what has happened in the world around us. read more

Searching for Jesus Christ

Mrs. Droste, Christian Education Director challenges you to help others searching for Jesus, by putting a cross in your window! Mrs. Droste would love it if you would send her a photo of your cross in your window! Send it to:  office@orelc.org

Adult Bible Class

Beginning Sunday, August 23rd, we will be offering a new Adult Bible Class on Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM (following the Divine Service) in the sanctuary.  We will begin by focusing on the book of Psalms.

We hope you’ll be able to join us as we explore the treasures of this precious book, which Martin Luther once described in the following words:  “Where do we find finer words of joy than in the psalms of praise and thanksgiving? On the other hand, where do you find deeper words of sorrow than in the psalms of lamentation? So, too, when they speak of fear and hope, they use such words that no painter could so depict fear or hope. This is the reason why the Psalter is the book of all saints. Everyone, in whatever situation he may be, finds in it psalms and words that fit his situation — they fit so precisely, it is as if they were placed there just for his sake, so that he himself could not put it any better, nor could he find or wish for anything better.”
